Barium sulfate has a rhombohedral crystal structure, which is similar to the crystal structure of lead sulfate. The main function of adding barium sulfate is to provide the center of nucleus for the lead sulfate precipitated during discharge, so as to reduce the crystallization overpotential of lead sulfate, which is conducive to the precipitation of lead sulfate crystals generated during discharge to improve the capacity of the battery.
Barium sulfate plays a unique role in the depassivation of organic additives in the negative electrode active substance. Organic additives are adsorbed on barium sulfate crystals and gradually enter into the crystallization area of lead sulfate, which makes the lead sulfate film loose and is conducive to the improvement of discharge performance.
