Different ratios of sodium lignosulfonate were used as colloidal electrolyte additives to investigate the changes of physical and electrochemical properties of colloidal electrolytes before and after the addition. The viscosity test, aging precipitation test, cyclic voltammetry and AC impedance analysis showed that the additive could affect the viscosity of the colloid, reduce the aging precipitation, improve the electrochemical performance of the colloid and reduce the internal resistance of the colloidal battery.
The optimal mass fraction of additives was determined to be 0.005% to 0.01%, and the appropriate mass fraction of fumed silica in the colloidal electrolyte was 3.0%. The structural and morphological changes of the additives and colloidal electrolyte were characterized by UV-V is, FT-IR spectroscopy, TEM and SEM.
The results showed that the colloidal electrolyte with the addition of sodium lignosulfonate formed a more loose and porous structure, which was more favorable for ionic conduction and electrolyte storage.
